To strengthen our Dine nation through health education and promote As’ah oodal (sihasin, nits’ahakees, nahat’ah, and Iina).
To empower our Dine nation by providing quality health education and fostering healthy decision making
Health education is vital for promoting healthy behaviors, preventing disease, reducing healthcare costs, and improving quality of life. It empowers individuals—especially within the Navajo community—with the knowledge, skills, and tools to make informed health decisions and adopt healthier lifestyles. Early health education for youth supports positive well-being, academic success, and long-term health outcomes.
The Navajo Health Education Program (NHEP) focuses on a range of topics, including maternal and child health, injury prevention, substance abuse, communicable and infectious diseases, emergency preparedness, and physical activity. These efforts aim to reduce health disparities, raise awareness, promote behavior change, enhance health literacy, and advocate for healthier communities across the Navajo Nation.
